Could somebody give me some insight on a sample of my book? The thought struck me again. No, not a thought. A dream. The dream is back. I rolled over and looked at the clock. It read 0414. Not bad for three hours of sleep. I groaned and sat up. I looked down at my dog, hesitantly waiting for her morning ritual. A long jog through what seemed to be an endless connection of trails in our suburban neighborhood. I quickly got dressed into my sweats and grabbed her leash.
The morning air felt crisp as I stumbled my way out the door, still half asleep. The city always seems to look so dead and deserted. No lights on, no signs of commotion, no clutter. This was my relaxation time. It seemed as if the whole world was on hold, waiting for me to go on my run and relax in the darkness. I was comfortable in the darkness, and alone. Except for my dog, Jente, of course. I tended to think that she didn't count as a soul to keep me from my solitude. A dog can't judge or complain after all.
After my jog, I stepped back in my house and hung up her leash on the same hook as always. I made my coffee and started for the bedroom, just like every other day. Something caught the corner of my eye. I noticed a book on my shelf has fallen over. I couldn't help but get the feeling that I have been in this situation before. I approached the book and picked it up. A Brief History of Time by Stephen Hawking. I shook my head and turned around. At the very instant that I turned around, my world went black.
---
I jolted awake. My muscles flexed and strained as I tried to make sense of where I was. Screaming I felt searing pain in my skull. I looked around and tried to gather my surroundings. Concrete. Steel. It look as if I was in a dungeon. I was tied to a bed frame. The steel coils pierced into my shirtless body. My jeans were still on, but nothing else. I was cold and wet from what I gathered to be water, since it had no odor or texture. Then the electricity came. I tried to scream but no sound came out, just pure intensity. Black, again.
Again, I awoke to the same surroundings. This time the light was on and a large man in a suit entered. His suit seemed to be of very high quality, and he had dark glasses on. Completely unnecessary in this dim lighting, but it helped to portray a movie-star stigma as he entered. His skin was glistening on his forehead, as if from sweat. His face was extremely pale, with sharp features. His black hair only made his skin seem whiter.
"Don't worry, you won't die down here, Jack." His voice seemed to rumble as he hit his low notes. "We have no intention of killing you, only using you." Using me for what?
"Who are you?" I yelled at him.
A low chuckle. "You will find out soon enough, my friend. For now, you need to worry about nothing except me, you, this room, and now."
"What are you going to do to me?!"
"We are going to make you a better person, Jack. We know what you do, and why. Frankly, we're not impressed. Although, you have a gift, Jack."
What was he talking about? What I did? Gift?
"Do you think it is a coincidence that you are here? We brought you here for a reason. And we will instill a type of confidence in you, that you will finally be able to trust your inner emotions and instinct. To bring it short, you have an animal instinct. A type of clairvoyance that hasn't been around in humans for thousands of years."
"So you want to use me?"
"Yes, we want to use you, Jack. Use you for good. You are the edge we need to win this war."
War? This room looked familiar. I was overwhelmed and screamed in panic, trying to break the restraints but failing miserably. The leather straps were the types used for mentally unstable people in asylums. It was no use fighting it. I needed to find a way out of here. My brain scrambled for options, coming up with nothing. "What war are you talking about?"
A smile creeped along the edge of his face. This man was intimidating in stature, but something about his voice was almost comforting. "You will learn about the war soon enough, but for now you need to train." He turned around, starting to leave.
"Hey! Where are you going?! Answer me!" My voice fell short to silence. Then darkness. My world was black and I was still strapped to my bed. I tried to sit up but my body was thrown back by electricity, once again. This time it was different. I felt no pain, no tensing, no hopelessness. I seemed to be separated from by body, in a state of complete relaxation and piece. I could see my world perfectly. A small flash of metal caught my eye. It was a knife! I felt the steel against my skin, wedged under my belt for the first time. In fact, the point of it seemed to have cut into my skin sometime during the electrocution. The electricity stopped surging. I needed that knife! I focused on my left hand, and tried to squeeze it out of | dude. THIS IS EPIC! you are a brilliant writer (but i noticed you spelled peace like piece) and you really have a future in writing, i can tell. I hope to see the rest of this story soon, it's very entertaining, and full of action, unsuspecting twists, and you are very good with adjectives. I usually see people over or underdoing it, but you are awesome. THIS is awesome.
keep on writing! |
